REM Glen Helen: While The Cats Away The Mice Will Play

Australian Chris Alamangos runs his number "Down Under" style in the Over-40 Intermediate class.

With the majority of SoCal's pros at the Hangtown National, Glen Helen's REM races was left to the the regular crew of Vets, Intermediates and Juniors. The pros weren't missed, as another large turnout was greeted by a new track design that incorporated parts of the "Prequel" track from last weekend (including the triple step-up).

VET BEGINNER: The biggest class of the day was the Vet Beginner class and it was a rollicking race with four riders sharing time at the front. Tom Hinz won the first moto by passing Brian Smith on the last lap. The second moto went to Greg Schellack. Tom Hinz took the overall with a 1-2 in front of Schellack's 3-1, Brian Smith's 2-6 and Jeremy Seat's 6-3.

OVER-40 JUNIOR: The second biggest class was the Over-40 Junior class. It was swept by Paul Fitz-Gibbon (1-1) in front of Cory Clark (2-3), Russell Brown (4-2), John Caper (3-4), John Zernickow (6-5) and Mike Phillips (5-6).  Other notables in the 40 junior class were Rick Peterson (8-9), John Tookey (10-10) and Chris Morales (13-13).

Cory Clark (48) went 2-3 in the Over-40 Junior class for second overall.

VET PRO/INTERMEDIATE: Willie Surratt beat Matt Tedder in the Vet Pro class. Ian Fitz-Gibbon completed a Fitz-Gibbon double (with Over-40 Junior winner brother Paul) by winning the Vet Intermediate class in front of Joe "Meltdown" Melton and new Yamaha Public Relation man (and former MXA test rider) Tim Olson.

250 Intermediate John Minert just graduated from college last week, starts working at MXA next week and was fourth this weekend.

OVER-50 CLASS: With over 20 riders entered in the Over-50 classes the wins went to Dennis Boulware in the Master class, Dennis McAdam in the Intermediates and Pete Smith in the Juniors. Bengt Johansson beat fellow Swede Lars Larsson in the Over-60 Master class.

125 TWO-STROKE: Carl Gula won the 125cc two-stroke class in front of Derek Wysong and James Cadman. The 125 two-stroke class was designed as a step-up class to help young riders move up to the 250F four-strokes. It has a lower entry fee than other classes.

The Tedder clan raced at REM. Matt was second in Vet Pro and first in Over-40 Master.

OTHER NOTABLES:
Bryan Daniels beat Steve Lawler, Mark Hall and Greg Groom in th Over-40 Exert class, while Steve Watson swept the Over-40 Intermediate class. Dylan McKee won the 450 Intermediate class in front of Myles Tedder, David Robertson, Matt LaTendresse, Parker Eckman, Dakota Tedder and Kameron Silva. Mark Johnson went 2-1 in the 450 Junior class in front of Brandon Peterson's 1-3.

This downhill drop-off bit Mark McKellop in practice, but was trouble-free the rest of the day.

REM races again next Saturday. Practice starts at 9:00. For more info go to www.remsatmx.com
